Research Interests:

My research interest is functional diversity of ectomycorrhizal fungi in mineral soil. I undertake correlative field studies and controlled laboratory experiments to explore functional differences between ectomycorrhizal fungi and to determine the relative importance of abiotic preferences versus biotic interactions in forming the diverse communities of these fungi observed in boreal forest mineral soils. Different forms of organic and mineral P are available in different parts of stratified soil profiles and fungi must thus employ different strategies to obtain P depending on where in the soil profile they grow. This may be an important factor forming fungal diversity below ground.
